Photography, without the awkwardness

Photography for real people in Taunton, Somerset, for me, is about people feeling like themselves.

I don’t chase forced smiles or perfect poses. I’m more interested in the in-between moments — the way people interact, move, laugh, and exist when they’re comfortable.

Whether I’m photographing families, individuals, businesses, or events, the approach stays the same: keep things relaxed, let moments happen, and capture them honestly.

Family & Individuals

These shoots happen where you already feel comfortable — at home, on a favourite walk, in a studio you love, or somewhere that just feels like you.
I’m not there to force moments or poses. I fit in, give gentle direction when it helps, and let things unfold naturally.
When people are relaxed and in their own space, the photos tend to make themselves.

“Most of these are shot in real spaces, not studios.”

Small Business & Personal Branding

This is for people and teams who run something, make something, or put real work into what they do.
From cafés, studios and workshops to builders, makers and creatives, I’ll usually shoot in the spaces where the work actually happens.
It keeps things relaxed, honest, and true to how your business looks and feels day to day — not staged, not overproduced. Real Photography for real people in Taunton, Somerset.

“If this style feels right, we should probably talk.”

Events

Events sit in that nice middle ground where work and fun often overlap.
That might be a business hosting a party, a birthday, a community event, or a room full of people sharing ideas at a conference.
I don’t just stand in the corner with a camera — I talk to people, get involved, and make sure guests know who I am. That way, when the camera comes out, no one stiffens up. It’s just James, capturing the moments as they happen.

“This is usually how events feel when I’m working.”

How pricing works

Every shoot is a little different, which is why I don’t list fixed prices on the website.
Things like time, location, number of people, and what the photos are for all play a part, and I’d rather give you an honest answer than a vague starting figure.

There are no hidden extras. If something affects the price, it’s talked through and listed clearly from the start.
A quick chat helps me understand what you actually need, and lets me give you a clear price so you know exactly where you stand before anything’s booked.

What I’m up to lately

Most of my recent work lives on Instagram — behind the scenes, finished photos, and the odd moment in between.
If you want to get a feel for how I work and what I’m shooting day to day, that’s the best place to find it.

Thinking about a shoot?

If you’re after relaxed, honest photography and like the idea of working with someone who keeps things straightforward, we’ll probably get on well.
I’m best suited to people and businesses who value comfort, trust, and a bit of personality over rigid setups or ticking boxes.

If that sounds like your thing, drop me a message and tell me what you have in mind.
No pressure — just a conversation to see if it’s a good fit.
