Who we are

Our website address is:
https://jameslatus.com

This website is run by James Latus, a documentary photographer based in Taunton, Somerset.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the information shown in the comments form, along with the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent. This helps us detect spam and keep the site running smoothly.

If you use Gravatar, an anonymised string (a hash) created from your email address may be shared with the Gravatar service to check if you have a profile image. You can read their privacy policy here:
https://automattic.com/privacy/

Once your comment is approved, your profile picture (if you use one) may be visible to the public alongside your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website (for example via a contact form), please avoid uploading images that contain embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors to the site can download images and may be able to extract this information.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on the site, you may choose to save your name, email address, and website in cookies. This is purely for convenience so you don’t have to re-enter your details next time. These cookies last for one year.

If you visit the login page, a temporary cookie is set to check whether your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is deleted when you close your browser.

If you log in, cookies will be used to remember your login details and display preferences. Login cookies last for two days, and screen option cookies last for one year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will last for two weeks. Logging out removes these cookies.

If you edit or publish content, an additional cookie may be stored in your browser. This contains no personal data and simply records the post ID. It expires after one day.

Embedded content from other websites

Some pages on this site may include embedded content (for example videos, images, or posts from platforms like Instagram or YouTube).

Embedded content behaves in the same way as if you visited the other website directly. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that content — particularly if you are logged in to their service.

Who we share your data with

We don’t sell or trade your data.

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email for security purposes.

Visitor comments may be checked through automated spam detection services.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are kept indefinitely. This helps us recognise and approve follow-up comments automatically rather than holding them for moderation.

If you create an account on the site (if applicable), we store the personal information you provide in your user profile. You can view, edit, or delete your personal information at any time (except your username). Site administrators can also access this information to manage the site.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you. You can also ask for your personal data to be erased.

This does not include any data we are required to keep for administrative, legal, or security reasons.

Where your data is sent

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service to help prevent spam and abuse.
